I never dreamed I would LOVE the "terrible 2's" as much as I do. They have been heavenly so far, not terrible. I will probably jinx myself and Jake will turn into a little demon after I type this, but so far it's been great.
He has the best memory, knows direction and location so well, talks about people in his life when he's not around them, says the funniest things, is super polite, and tells us the sweetest things all of the time. I'm such a "baby" person that I'm seriously shocked that next to the 4-8 month stage, this is my absolute favorite time!
Some things I'd like to remember:
"Mommy, I had fun ____________." - He always likes to tell me that he had fun at church, at the pool, at Sea World, playing with his friends, or even grocery shopping.
He always knows whose house we're by, whose house we're going to by the roads we are traveling, and even remembers places we've seen animals and tells me they're hiding if he doesn't see them a week or two later in the same spot.
We love when he says, "Pease don't say dat!" For example, the other day I was sweeping the tile. He said, "Mommy's cleaning...Mommy's sweepin!" I said, "Yep!" And he then asked, "Why?" I replied, "Because you made a mess!" That's when Jake said, "Don't say dat!" It's soo cute!
"I getting sweepy Mommy, I ready for bed." --Sooo Jakey....always has loved his sleep.
He loves yelling "Amen!" after any prayer and sometimes for no reason. When we visit Granny Jimmy in her assisted living home the old folks think it's hilarious. :)
He sings sweet songs from Bible class all of the time and it's the cutest thing I've ever seen. He also loves to count and has been able to count to twenty for a few months, but seems to go thru phases where he butchers a couple of numbers in a row. His favorite songs to sing right now are the frog song, Jesus loves me, and What time is it?
His two favorite things to play, hands down, are shooting the basketball and riding his bike. He loves to say, "I push the pedals!" He still begs to be outside no matter how long we've gone out that day. He literally runs laps around our house and rides his bike in laps if we're inside. :)
He has THE SWEETEST voice I've ever heard in my life. Seriously, he talks so much, and I could flat out not bear it if it wasn't this sweet to hear.
He is sooo tan. Jeremy asks if I put sunscreen on him when we go to the pool. I do. Every time. Thank you very much. :) He's even got me beat on the dark scale-- he's just plain brown.
He's getting opinions but really is still pretty easy. We've yet to have any major tantrums where he's out of control or just throwing a fit. Of course, he has the things that make him cry but it's few and far between and he's usually a trooper in whatever situation he's in.
We love reading books with him because he knows the words that are coming on the next page and wants to say them first. It's so cute!
Last week when Jeremy was traveling for training for his new position there was a man talking to us in line at checkout. He said, "What a good looking little guy that is....." Jakey's response? "My Daddy's outta town!" Mommy cringes. :)
Today he said, "Mr. Weo gave this to him." He was playing with a nascar hotwheels that had been given to him probably 3 or 4 months ago by Jeremy's friend at work, Mr. Leo. Wow, that kid never ceases to amaze us with his memory! What a neat moment for him to be thankful and recall something from so long ago.
Today he also picked up his play phone from his kitchen and said, "Hey Papaw, Hey! Let me call you right back!" It was soooo cute, wonder where he's heard that from? That was a new for his pretend phone conversations.
He's gotten very social (this time last year he was for sure a shy guy!). He now likes to say, "Mommy I wanna say hi, Mommy." He asks for permission to tell strangers in the store hi and also he loves to try to say hi when Mommy's driving thru somewhere.
He says the most random things! When we use the restroom together when we're out and about we obviously share a restroom stall. Jake, on several occasions, has said, "Look, Mommy went poo-poo!" I was like....uh, no there's really nothing there. LOL... He also told Lissa and I last month on the way to San Antonio, "Where's Uncle Jon? He's on the potty." We were so confused as to where he comes up with this stuff. I guess he's all boy with his potty humor. :) He laughs at bodily funcions and will call you or himself out!
He's been calling the wrong people "Miss." Including me! I'm "Miss Mommy" sometimes and even Uncle Shad has been called Miss. Jake said, "Miss Uncle Shad's almost here to my house." I was like ...drop the Miss part! And Gammie has also been called, "Miss Gammie." LOL!
Jake is and has mostly always been easy and such a joy. We're hoping baby Seth doesn't cramp our style. ;) J/k...kinda! He sleeps usually atleast 12 hours, this morning he woke up just after 9am. He is independent and easy going and we just know our easy world is gonna be rocked again with diapers and sleeping distractions! We're just hoping the next one is as easy on us as Jake has always been!
Jake at almost 2.5 years old is sooo active, happy, funny, healthy, independent, adorable, smart, silly, cuddly, sweet, talking unless he's asleep, thoughtful and such a joy. I will always cherish these two and a half years with him alone. And, we still have 4 more months of this wonderful time! He's gotten to be the star of the show and the "only child" and we've enjoyed spending all of our time and energy on and with him. We are so thankful that God gave us him as our son and our firstborn.
I know it won't be like this for long, and that makes me so sad! I hope 3 is as fun as 2 has been!
